Ό,τι ήταν θνητό θ΄απομακρυνθεί με φωτιά,
Ό,τι ήταν νους θα πρέπει σε ύπνο να τεθεί.
Μόνο το πνεύμα θα αγρυπνά να μαρτυρά,
Αυτό που το βάθος στο βάθος μολογεί•

Αλλά για μια στιγμή, καθώς κι’ αυτό επίσης διαφεύγει –
Όπως σ’ αγρό στρωμένο ολόγυρα με χιόνι αφράτο,
Ίχνη πουλιών μια σύντομη μαρτυρούν προσγείωση
Σε πτήση που εκίνησε και τέλειωσε σ’ αέρα.
